If your liberation is tied to my liberation, then I will be only be free when you are free.

If this is what I believe, then doesn’t everything elevate to a collective model?

Your success should mean my success. And my success yours.

That means I will work to amplify you as much as I would amplify myself because you and I are tied. The intricate collective web that we share is tenuous and only works when we all hold up the strands.

Children skip and dance through the world with a general sense of wide-eyed wonder.

They are naturally curious and filled with love.

At some point, many many will lose that sense of wonder.

As parents, what do we do? Do we ensure that they keep a death grip on that sense of wonder? Do we do all we can to maintain that curiosity and innocence?

Or is that loss inevitable and our role as parent is to give them the tools and self-awareness to know when that sense of wonder is lost and how to recapture it?

In Human Design, Generators, like myself, are responsive creatures. We are supposed to wait for things to happen and initiating/pushing things ahead before their time yields suboptimal results.

This has been so difficult to embody as our culture values action and taking the bull by its horns. We are taught that if we want something, we need to go get it and doing otherwise is lazy or worse, passive.

Passive.

No one wants to be passive. Instead of taking the bull by its horns, passivity means you are letting the bull stomp over you.

There is a clear lack of control in that.

And a huge value in our culture is control or at least the perception of it.

But control doesn’t always means you have to be showing that bull who is boss. You can be in control in any situation. And when you are in control, you trust the situation. You trust that what is unfolding is doing so in the time its meant to be.

Waiting for things to happen may appear passive but if it is done with intention, it is absolutely not.

It is easy to debate and legislate and orate when we see issues as one-sided and thus, solutions as one-sided.

It is easy to say something is black and white and no in-between.

It is easy to stand on a pedestal and harp on those “below.”

But that is not reality.

Social issues, and arguably all issues, are multi-faceted and until we can pull off our rose colored, 1D-glasses, we will never be able to fully resolve them.

Trying to solve a problem by addressing one facet is like trying to unknot a bundle of yarn by simply pulling on one side and “unknotting” that one side while making the knot tighter on the other side.

The days are long but the years are short.

Because of this reality, someone well intentioned may say “stay positive” or “this is only a phase” or “you’ll get through this” to mother who is –

• sad to return back to work after having a baby last week
• not getting enough sleep because she is waking up often with her child
• struggling to breastfeed and crying because her insurance does not cover visits from a lactation consultant
• quitting her job to stay home with both kids because daycare costs are more than her salary
• working multiple jobs to keep food on the table

Saying those positive statements may feel good to the person saying it but it completely dismisses the experience of the mother and places the burden on her. It says that if she’d only change her mindset, then things will get better.

It is NOT her responsibility to be positive when our society is absent of the support and resources that mothers need to be able to mother and live and work the way that they desire.

Staying positive when the system is broken is NOT the answer.

Don’t take intuition so seriously.

If you can believe that we are all intuitive, then you will gain trust that it exists within you.

Then, it is only a matter of inviting it out to play.

Playing is how we can start our re-connection process with intuition.

There are many variations to playing with intuition. Guess the color of the next car you will see. Call or text your friend when they come to mind for no reason. Grab that umbrella when you feel like it might be a good idea. When facing a problem or decision, open a book to a random page and see how the message on the page resonates with your issue.

We came into this world with intuition – trusting it and allowing it. Play will allow you to reconnect and rebuild that trust and allowing.

Corners aren’t necessarily our favorite places.

They are pointy and shadowy. Time outs happen in corners. And when someone feels “cornered,” they feel like there is nowhere to go.

But corners can be powerful.

Facing the corner can give us time to think, to shut out the world and be.

Feeling cornered gives us few options but can give us focus because there are only so many choices. When we are in a corner, things may become clearer.

Integration requires time and attention – both in high demand in our culture.

When everything is pulling for our time and attention, how are we supposed to integrate what is happening in our lives into our bodies?

Unlearning our cultural constructs where time and attention are to be taken and not to be given.

Remember, you have the power to own your time and attention.

The unlearning will not happen instantaneously, nor will it always be progress, but it can be done.

Relating to someone over their past experience feels deeper than relating to someone over their current experience.

Perhaps it is because the current experience is fed by the past so in order to understand the full story of what is happening now, I would have to examine the past.

Developing those deeper relationships involves deep conversations which don’t just involve what is happening right now. It involves present and past. Or past, present and future.

Adding feels extra, like more work. Sometimes, it feels like too much on our already full plates.

Whereas folding feels gentle, like I’m integrating and bringing it into my world with a hug.
