If I don’t have enough alone time in a day, I get irritable. Alone time means time alone and time I dictate myself. This does not necessarily mean I don’t complete tasks that are needed for the kids or household. It means I do whatever on my own accord.

Once a week, I’ll escape to a cafe or the library to write or to do what I want for a couple of hours.

This was not always possible when the kids were younger and we needed all hands on deck. Now, I find with each passing year I yearn for this time more and more and thankfully, I can take it most weeks. It feeds my spirit which in turn revives my physical being.

While I’m not sure everyone needs these periods of respite, we each need something that feeds our soul and I hope that you are able to access yours, whatever it may be.

I write everyday because it allows me to voice what is at the surface. Once that is out of my head, I can dig in another layer deeper. My daily writing practice has been my greatest exploration of self and humanity. Sign up here to receive these thought nuggets in your inbox on the daily.
