I returned to my beloved writing class today after taking a season off. Like a hockey player returning to their skates after months, I felt rusty.

Part of the rustiness is attributed to that time off but more so, it is likely due to my shifting my business, like a hockey player who took off the season to swim. There is a messy middle where our bodies and minds try to bring together two opposing skillsets, two different identities, or two disparate ideas. The connections haven’t found each other – yet. I am working hard to wrap my head around one idea while being pulled by the anchor that has been there.

The puck is in the pool – what is the game I play now and how?

I write everyday because it allows me to voice what is at the surface. Once that is out of my head, I can dig in another layer deeper. My daily writing practice has been my greatest exploration of self and humanity. Sign up here to receive these thought nuggets in your inbox on the daily.
