My friend and I have a joke that you’re not really good friends until you have multiple conversations with each other on multiple platforms – e.g., text, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn.

I think of how my writing peppers multiple planes of existence – Google docs, Scrivener, Notes app, my blog, a book I’m featured in, guest blogs, countless emails to myself, journals galore, more recently Voicenotes, and random pieces of paper in cluttered boxes.

I have to say, I must really want to be good friends with myself. The way I put my words out there for the possibility of my future self stumbling across them again is hopeful, innocent, and whimsical.

The relationship with the reader is a wonderful thing – to be able to present fact or fiction for someone else is a rewarding task. And between the lines is the relationship with self – how we hope that an older and wiser version of ourselves will stumble back upon our writings and to be proud of what we wrote then.

I write everyday because it allows me to voice what is at the surface. Once that is out of my head, I can dig in another layer deeper. My daily writing practice has been my greatest exploration of self and humanity. Sign up here to receive these thought nuggets in your inbox on the daily.
