I saw a movie in an actual theatre last week. It has been close to 12 years since I visited a theatre and the experience has changed quite a bit. I was expecting the folding cushioned seats with coarse fabric and sticky floors of the late 1990s movie theatres and instead, I was met with a plush, red, pleather seat, cushy armrest, and a generous cupholder.
Theatres have had to adapt because access to movies are no longer what they offer. With streaming platforms and releases OnDemand, they need to differentiate based on the experience. Even the “standard” ticket I paid for today offered something that was 20x more comfortable than general admission back in the day.
It is interesting to see the ways businesses and the world evolves around you even when you are not engaged – after all, life goes on without us.
