My kids are getting bigger. An obvious, inevitable fact and yet the truth of it has taken my breath away many times over the last twelve years.

Just because we know something to be indisputable does not mean it is acceptable. If I could, I would reject this truth. Perhaps I did in the early years, but a dozen years later now, I have no more walls to put up. Now, I let the truth sweep me off my feet, take my breath away, and open my eyes to children who are no longer babies.

Motherhood does not sugarcoat the harsh reality of our children’s change, growth, and distancing. Instead, she strips away the falsehoods and challenges to meet the truth with the barest parts of us.
