I had a final session with a client before we went on break for the summer. We have been working together for most of this year. She shared that the biggest change in our time together is that she knows she can change things in the moment – that she can change her reactions.

My heart swelled as this is one of the most powerful things we can reclaim – our reactions.

If we expose ourselves at all to social media or regular media, it is not hard to see that they are constantly trying to illicit a reaction from us – particularly a knee jerk one that causes us to hit share or comment angrily. By bringing out those reactions in us, we will buy more things, create more of a stir (low key chaos) and create a fight/flight response which disembodies us and perpetuates the cycle of liking-scrolling-buying.

When we are able to take back our reactions, we take back ownership of our actions. When we are able to mindfully act and react, we will be able to get back into the driver’s wheel of our life.
