I have wondered how good routines actually are.

There’s a lot of parenting advice out there that kids thrive on routine but how much of routine makes a child/future adult inflexible further on in life?

Routine gives us a sense of stability. It’s more of a physical place and time stability offered by caretakers vs. an emotional or psychological stability offered by caretakers.

It can be easily seen that routine stability can offer emotional or psychological stability but it should not be offered in place of them.
