When I write, I prefer to listen to piano music. It is relaxing, inspiring and thought provoking. Or I could say, it relaxes me, inspires me and provokes thoughts from within me. As I tap my keys, it almost feels like I am playing the keys of the piano, sometimes even moving my fingers to the tempo of the piece.
In think of this relationship between music and my writing, I realize that my writing is my symphony. (I was never the best music student so stick with me through this metaphor.) A symphony is an elaborate musical piece that has layers of melodies and harmonies and many instruments involved. It is magnificent and while a single tune may capture the major gist of the piece, the symphony is powerful because of the many pieces involved.
With my writing, it is the layers of the many blogs and articles that I have written that really sum up who I am and what I stand for. While one blog or article may contain a hint of a tune, the reader misses out on the full experience if they don’t read the rest of my work.
This metaphor could be carried over to many other parts of our lives – our friendships, favorite books, paintings, meals cooked, dance routines and so on. We are all Mozart’s and Beethoven’s creating our symphonies.
