Of the games I find in the newspaper, the one I find most challenging is the crossword puzzle. I have a lot of Respect (yes, with a capital ‘R’) for anyone who can complete a crossword without tweaking their neck glancing upside down at the answer key.
I have a lot of trouble with crossword clues. I find them to be way too vague, confusing and/or clever for me. There are also quite a bit of pop culture references that fly over my head. Lastly, my brain does not recall words in a way that works when seeing partially filled or empty boxes on a piece of paper..
Maybe it is a matter of practice. Or maybe crosswords will never be my forte. That latter statement makes me cringe a little. It is not very “growth mindset” oriented but realistically, can we really approach everything with a growth mindset? Aren’t/shouldn’t there be some things in our lives where we say “I’m okay not being great at that.”
