We have some specific dessert practices in our house.
First is that we have dessert before dinner. We don’t often have dessert but when we do, we try to have it pre-dinner. On my second date with my husband, we had dessert before heading to grab our main meal so you could say we’ve been doing this for a while.
Dessert before dinner works for our family. We do not want our young kids scarfing down cake or pie or ice cream right before bed. The few times we have had it after dinner (due to circumstances out of our control), they bounce around for a long while before settling down.
Secondly, licking your plate clean is a-okay. I had a friend and their family over for dinner and their kids started licking the cake plates to their parents’ surprise. Before they could say anything, I said that it is okay in our house.
Dessert is meant to be enjoyed literally to the last drop.
YOLO – eat dessert first and lick your plate to your heart’s delight.
A daily practice challenges the person who creates on “inspiration.” We have to mother everyday, and ultimately, it is the daily grind that gives us perspective, clarity and the “high’s” of motherhood. I am exploring if the same happens when I write everyday on the topics that normally light me up – motherhood, self-development, healing and creating.
